Welcome to the second Hailsham Arts festival

This year we are celebrating the British Isles and Ireland with a diverse programme of art, music, dance and theatre from around the regions.
With additional support from local businesses and the Hailsham Chamber of Commerce, the festival team at Gallery North offer you an entertaining week of arts and culture - we hope you will find something here to enjoy!

Friday 5th - Sunday 14th September
THE HAILSHAM ART TRAIL
Take a leisurely stroll through the town, follow the art trail map and find an abundance of art on view - paintings, sculpture, pottery, flowers - a good opportunity to see some of the town's fine architecture, which often goes unnoticed, and enjoy coffee or lunch on route. Finalists of the local Primary Schools' Art Competition on show.
Plus open studios and art exhibitions out of town

Saturday 6th September
OPENING CONCERT
12 midday at St Marys Parish Church
Opening words by Mr. James Braxton, TV Auctioneer and the Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Ian Haffenden, followed by:
  • The Fretful Federation Mandolin Orchestra
Refreshments available in the refectory afterwards
Admission free
3.pm - Hailsham town centre
The popular Eastbourne Pipe Band parade through the town in full Scottish attire, look out for portrait artists, face painters, puppeteers and jugglers in Hailshams mini 'Montmartre' (by the war memorial).

Sunday 7th September
FESTIVAL EXHIBITION
2pm - 4pm at Gallery North, High Street
'Landscapes from the Isles'
  • with live music by classical guitarists Ken Lacy and Mark Smith
A wide variety of contemporary and traditional paintings, sculpture and prints. Including work by professional artists from the British Isles and Ireland: Joseph Sevier, Gus Harrison, Nicola King, a series of welsh paintings by Liz Hankins and sculpture by Paul Lucas.
Resident artists: Josie Tipler. Rachel Widdows, Viv Cecil and Jenny Johnstone plus our regular botanical artists.

The exhibition continues until 25th October, open 10 - 4pm Tuesdays to Saturdays.

Monday 8th September
Medieval Music by Schola Noctis
7.45pm at Hellingly Church
An atmospheric evening of early music performed and sung in costume by this renowned ensemble, playing a fascinating selection of medieval instruments.

The Unreel Ceilidh Band

Join in the dancing with this lively energetic five piece band - Scottish kilts, reels and strathespeys.

    The astrological diary of an artist's muse

    An eccentric mix of improvisation, performance poetry and astrological meanderings. Motivational arts humorist, Louise Taylor will flux your chuckle muscles.
